Men's Track Competes at New England Championship

New England Indoor Championship at Boston Univ., Boston, Mass. - Feb. 23-24, 2001

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College men's track team scored 36 points and finished fifth of 28 teams at the New England Indoor Track Championship at Boston University in Boston, Mass. on Saturday, February 24.

Senior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) won the 3,000 meters in a time of 7:56.37, which established a meet record. With his time of 7:56.37, Kelly qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship. Junior Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Ireland) also finished strong in the 3,000 meters. Thorpe placed second (8:03.02) and Reilly was third (8:23.69). Thorpe also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship and Reilly qualified for the IC4A Championship.

Senior Larry Morrissey (Waterford, Ireland) ran the mile and finished fourth in a time of 4:12.87. Morrissey qualified for the IC4A Indoor Championship.
