PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Ryan Gomes scored a career-high 21 points, 14 in the second half, as Providence beat Central Connecticut State 94-63 on Sunday.
Providence (9-4) won its fourth consecutive game with pinpoint outside shooting and crisp passing that led to easy layups.
Christopher Anrin scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers, and John Linehan finished with 13 points, seven assists and six steals. Abdul Mills and Marcus Douthit chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Corsley Edwards led Central Connecticut (8-4) with 17 points, but had just nine points after the midway point of the first half as the Blue Devils turned to the outside in an attempt to catch up to the Friars.
Providence had trouble finding the basket early, and Central Connecticut led 15-8 with about 11 minutes left in the first half.
The Friars went on a 28-8 run to take a 36-23 lead with about five minutes left in the half. Central Connecticut rallied to close within 39-31 on a basket by John Alexander with 2:17 left.
But Linehan hit another 3-pointer and Anrin had a 3 with 21 seconds left to give the Friars a 48-34 halftime lead.
The Friars hit 7 of 8 3-pointers late in the first half after hitting just one of their first eight.
In the second half, Providence used defensive pressure to create turnovers. The Friars shot 69 percent in the second half, and 55 percent for the game, their best mark of the season.
Maris Laksa, returning to action after missing seven games with a stress fracture in his right foot, had two points in 11 minutes.
