Bio
Kyle Murphy enters his third season as Providence College's Coordinator of Men's Ice Hockey Operations after being named to the position in July, 2014.
In his first season as the Coordinator of Men's Ice Hockey Operations, Murphy helped the Friars claim the program's first NCAA National Championship as Providence posted a thrilling, come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Boston University at the TD Garden (April 11).
In his role, Murphy oversees all aspects of the team's video operations and film breakdown and coordinates team travel.
Murphy, a 2013 graduate of the College, returns to the Friars after captaining the squad during the 2012-13 season. He played professionally with the Manglerud Star in Oslo, Norway during the 2013-14 season. Manglerus went 31-4-1-0 en route to a first-place finish in the First Division. Murphy played all 36 games, scoring 24 goals and adding 28 assists for 52 points as the Star earned promotion to the Eliteserien (Elite Division).
Murphy spent the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons with the Friars under Head Coach Nate Leaman. As a senior captain, he led Providence back to the Hockey East playoffs, including earning home ice for the Hockey East Quarterfinals for the first time in 10 seasons and to a second consecutive Hockey East Championship Semifinal appearance.
In 2012-13, Murphy appeared in all 38 games, recording three goals and eight assists for 11 points. Two of his three goals were game-winning tallies. Murphy was named the 2013 Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award Winner, as announced by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA).The award was established by the HCA in honor of former Army player Derek Hines, who was a "consummate team player and team builder." Hines played at Army from 1999-2003 and was a four-year letter-winner as well as a co-captain his senior season. He was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 1, 2005 in Afghanistan.
Prior to joining the Friars, Murphy spent the 2009-10 season with Notre Dame and the 2010-11 season with the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. He also graduated from Shattuck St. Mary's High School in Faribault, Minn., where he played hockey and tennis.
A native of Fairhaven, N.J., Murphy resides in Providence, R.I.
