Volleyball Set To Open BIG EAST Play At Home Against DePaul And Marquette

The Friars begin conference play on Friday, Sept. 25 against DePaul at 5:00 p.m.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team has concluded its non-conference schedule and will begin BIG EAST competition this weekend at home against DePaul and Marquette. The Friars will face DePaul on Friday, Sept. 25 at 5:00 p.m. and Marquette on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3:00 p.m.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Friars are entering the weekend 8-3 following a two-loss weekend at the Harvard Invitational. The Friars were defeated by Harvard (0-3) and Sacred Heart (3-2).
- Junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) currently leads the team in kills, with 108, and was awarded a spot on the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team this past weekend.
- Freshman Aubrey Easterwood (Dallas, Texas) is the current BIG EAST leader in block assists (56) and blocks per set (1.51). Easterwood is also the team leader blocks with 59.0.
- Senior Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas) leads the Friars in assists (201) and service aces (20). This past weekend, the senior surpassed 2,000 career assists.
- The Friars have recorded a .251 attack percentage, and have held their opponents to a .149 hitting percentage.
SCOUTING DEPAUL... The Blue Demons enter BIG EAST play 8-3 following a weekend sweep against Loyola (3-2) and UIC (3-0). DePaul was picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll.
- Senior Leonor Polezzi is the Blue Demons' current leader in assists (331) and service aces (20). Polezzi also holds the second-place spot in the BIG EAST for assists and service aces. She has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll three times in a row.
- Sophomore Kendall Timme is the Blue Demons' kills leader with 143. Timme is ranked third in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.76).
SCOUTING MARQUETTE... The Golden Eagles enter BIG EAST play 5-5 following a sweep against St. Thomas (3-2) and Milwaukee (3-0). Marquette was picked to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll and earned one first-place vote.
- Freshman Luanna Markus is the current leader assists (357) for both the Golden Eagles and the BIG EAST. Markus had been awarded BIG EAST Setter of the Week (Aug. 31), BIG EAST Freshman of the Week (Sep. 7) and BIG EAST Honor Roll (Sep. 21).
- Junior Carson Tyler is the Golden Eagles' leader in both kills (157) and service aces (17). The junior holds the second-place spot in the BIG EAST in kills per set, with 4.03. Tyler was awarded BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sep. 21.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will return to action next weekend (Friday, Oct. 2nd) at Villanova. The match will be played in Villanova, Pa. at 6:00 p.m.
