PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College senior forward Carly van Benten (Ashburn, Va.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey on Oct. 6. It marked Van Benten's second-straight appearance on the league's honor roll, having earned the recognition previously on Sept. 29.

Van Benten, a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, scored a goal in each of the Friars' games last week. On Oct. 2, she gave Providence a 1-0 lead vs. No. 7 UConn – a goal that stood through the remainder of regulation until the Huskies tied the game on a penalty corner with no time left on the clock to force OT. The Friars eventually fell to the Huskies in a shootout. On Oct. 4, Van Benten registered the game-winning goal, in overtime, to defeat UMass Lowell.

Through 12 games, Van Benten leads the Friars in points (16) and goals (eight). She has scored a goal in each of the Friars last five matches. Additionally, her eight goals mark a single-season career high, and five of her eight goals have been game winners.

Providence College (9-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 11 against Holy Cross. The match is slated to begin at Noon and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
