PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Seton Hall, 58-48, in BIG EAST play on Jan. 8 in Providence, R.I. The Pirates outscored the Friars by 15 points in the second half enroute to the win and improved to 11-5 overall (5-2 BIG EAST). The Friars dipped to 9-8 on the season (2-4 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Back-to-back threes by
Payton Dunbar gave the Friars an 8-2 lead heading into the media timeout (3:38).
• The Friars held Seton Hall scoreless for a span of 7:03 before the Pirates converted a pair of free throws with 1:03 left on the clock (10-4).
• Seton Hall shot just 10-percent from the field in the quarter (1-10) and was unable to convert a field goal during the final 8:06 of the frame.
• Providence held a 12-4 lead at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence pushed its lead to double digits (16-6) with 9:00 minutes on the clock.
• Seton Hall used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to two (16-14) with 3:56 to play in the frame.
• Dunbar halted the Friars' six-minute scoring drought with a pull-up jumper and
Riley Hamburger converted 1-2 free throws on the team's next possession to take a 19-14 lead.
• The Friars took a 23-18 lead into halftime and got 11 points from Dunbar in the opening half.
3RD QUARTER:
• Seton Hall took its first lead of the game at the 4:22 and extended it to as many as five (35-30) with 3:23 left on the clock.
• Friars responded with a three from Gormley and a floater from
Sabou Gueye to even the score at 35-35 at the 2:21 mark.
• Providence went scoreless the rest of the way as Seton Hall claimed a 38-35 lead heading into the fourth.
• Gormley and Gueye combined for nine of the Friars' 12 points in the quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Seton Hall pushed the lead to double digits (52-41) with 2:40 left in the game.
• The Pirates led by as many as 13 before capping off the 58-48 win.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Dunbar was the lone Friar to reach double figures in the scoring column (13).
• Gormley finished the night with eight points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal.
• Gormley has dished 5+ assists in 10 games this season, including all six BIG EAST games.
• Gueye tallied eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Seven of her 11 boards came off the offensive glass.

Teneisia Brown added six points, nine rebounds and two steals.
• Seton Hall held a 42-38 advantage in rebounding.
• The Friars grabbed 18 offensive boards.
• Providence shot a season-low 26.7-percent from the field in the game (16-60).
