Volleyball Set to Host New Haven in Midweek Matchup

The Friars will face University of New Haven on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6:00 PM.

PROVIDENCE, R.I- The Providence College volleyball team is home on Tuesday, Sept. 9 for a midweek game in Alumni Hall against University of New Haven at 6:00 PM.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE- The Friars enter the match with a 3-3 record. Most recently, the Friars won the Ocean State Cup after posting a 2-1 record in the tournament. Providence defeated Rhode Island (3-0) and Brown (3-0) before falling to Bryant (3-2).

Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named to the Ocean State Cup All-Tournament team and leads the Friars' offense with 80 kills, averaging 3.48 per set.

Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) was also named to the Ocean State Cup All-Tournament team. Pride leads the team in digs (107) and ranks first in the BIG EAST in digs/set (4.65).

Junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) leads the team in blocks, with 31 and ranks third in the BIG EAST in that category.

Sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) leads the Friars and the BIG EAST in service aces, with 17.


SCOUTING NEW HAVEN- The Chargers enter the game with a 1-3 record. Most recently, the Chargers competed in the Big Apple Tournament, where they beat Columbia (3-1) and lost to Fordham (3-0) and Northeastern (3-2). New Haven is competing in its first year as an NCAA Division I institution. 

Junior Lauren MacKellar leads the team in kills, with 39.

Redshirt sophomore Caroline Johnston averages 4.53 assists per set and leads the team in total assists, with 68.

Sophomore Payton Malinoski leads the team in digs, with 61. 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will be home at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I., this weekend to host the 20th Annual Friar Classic. The Friars will face off against Central Connecticut State University on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5:00 p.m. Providence will then play Merrimack College on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2:00 p.m. and Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m.
