PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (3-2) defeated Brown University (1-1) in straight sets (3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 6, in its second match of the Ocean State Cup at PC's Alumni Hall.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-14 victory in the first set.
- Providence came out quick with a 6-1 lead, forcing a Brown timeout.
- The Bears took their second timeout after a kill by PC junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) extended the lead to 13-8.
- A kill by junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) further advanced the Providence lead to 22-13.
- The Friars won the set 25-14 on a Brown hitting error.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the second set, 25-21.
- The two teams traded points early, tying the set at 9-9.
- Brown went on a 3-0 run, forcing a Providence timeout (12-9).
- The Bears called a timeout after a kill by freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) tied the set again at 15-15.
- Providence went on a 5-3 run, forcing a second Brown timeout (20-17).
- The Bears eventually tied the game at 21-21 forcing the Friars to take their second timeout.
- Providence went on a 4-0 run after the timeout, winning the set 25-21.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the third set 25-21, and the match 3-0.
- Providence came out strong with a 7-3 lead, forcing a Brown timeout.
- Brown used its second timeout after a kill by freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) extended the Providence lead to 14-7.
- The Friars further advanced their lead after a kill by Kocon (21-10).
- Providence maintained their lead to win the set 25-11, and the match 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
- Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense in digs (17).
- Kocon recorded a triple-double, with 12 assists, 11 digs, and a team high 11 kills. She also tallied five aces.
- Berry led the team in blocks with six.
- The Friars notched 42 kills, eight aces, 16 blocks, and 51 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will return to action tonight (Sept. 6) for their third and final match of the Ocean State Cup against Bryant at 7:00 PM.
