PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the Friar Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. It will begin with the women's race at 3:15 pm, followed by the men's race at 4:00 pm. The Friar men and women will race against the University of Rhode Island, Brown University, Dartmouth University, Northeastern University and Boston University.

The seventh-ranked Friar women will be led by senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland). Laverty placed 20th (21:05.3) at the 2024 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship as well as a 40th (20:55.59) place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals that fall. The senior went on to compete at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship and finished in a time of 21:10.6. At the Friar Invitational last season, Laverty placed sixth (14:30.93).
Senior Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) had a successful 2025 cross country season as she placed seventh (14:32.28) at the Friar Invitational. O'Mahony finished 18th at the 2024 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship (20:58.3) and 29th at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship (20:37.90). The senior finished the season at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship in a time of 21:07.8.
The men's cross country team will be led by sophomore
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) and senior
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand). Dixon had an impressive freshman cross country season as he placed third at the Friar Invitational (18:36.92) and 16th (24:26.71) at the 2024 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship. Dixon went on to finish his first season by placing 37th (30:57.4) at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
Powell begins his fourth season with the Friars in the 2025-26 campaign. Powell placed 27th (25:16.86) at the New England Championship and went on to compete at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship (25:52.81).
