Freshman goalkeeper Ava Porter named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College field hockey student-athletes Lily Procaccianti (Cranston, R.I.) and Ava Porter (Somerset, Mass.) were honored by the BIG EAST Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Procaccianti was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week, while Porter claimed BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition.
 
Procaccianti, a junior, scored three goals in two games last week. On Sept. 26, she tallied two goals in the Friars' 2-0 victory over BIG EAST foe Georgetown. It marked her second multi-goal game of the season and third of her career. Through nine games, Procaccianti leads the team and ranks second in the BIG EAST in goals scored (six). She also ranks seventh in the league in points per game (1.44). Earlier this season, Procaccianti was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (Sept. 9).
 
Porter, a freshman, has been honored by the league three times this season. She was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Sept. 2 and has appeared on the Weekly Honor Roll, twice (Sept. 9, Sept. 30). Last week, she posted a 2-0 record and did not yield a goal in 116:14 minutes of action in the cage. She claimed her second shut-out victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Georgetown in league action (Sept. 26) and held Hofstra scoreless during her 56:14 minutes of playing time. Through nine games, Porter leads the BIG EAST in save percentage (.776) and ranks second in goals against average (1.19), while playing a league-high 554 minutes in goal.
 
Providence (6-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Friday, Oct. 3 against Connecticut. The game will be played in Storrs, Conn. and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
