CHICAGO, Ill.- The Providence College volleyball team (9-6, 0-2 BIG EAST) fell to DePaul University (9-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) in three sets (3-0) in BIG EAST action on Saturday, Sept. 27.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul earned a 25-23 victory in the first set.
- DePaul came out quick earning an 11-6 lead, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Blue Demons extended their lead to 17-10, prompting a second Friar timeout.
- A kill by junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) narrowed the gap to 22-18.
- DePaul maintained its lead and earned a 25-23 victory.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul won the second set, 25-20.
- The two teams traded points early, tying the set at 13-13.
- DePaul took the lead at 17-16, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars took another timeout after a 4-0 run by the Blue Demons (21-16).
- DePaul maintained its lead and won the set, 25-20.
- Junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) led the Friars with seven kills through set two.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul won the set, 25-19 and the match 3-0.
- Providence jumped out to a 5-3 advantage, prompting a DePaul timeout.
- A kill by sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) advanced PC's lead to 13-9.
- DePaul reclaimed the lead at 18-16, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Blue Demons maintained their lead to win the set 25-19, and the match 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
- Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a double-double, with a team-high 10 kills and 12 digs.
- Freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) recorded six blocks.
- Redshirt senior Hadley Pride led the defense with 16 digs.
- The Friars notched 34 kills, 11 blocks and 49 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to Alumni Hall next weekend for their BIG EAST home opener. They will face St. John's on Friday, Oct. 3 at 5:00 p.m. and Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:00 p.m.
