Smith and Grifone earned post-season conference honors for the first time in their careers.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- It was announced today (May 6) that Providence College softball student-athletes Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) each earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Grifone and Smith played key roles in helping the Friars clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Softball Championship for the first time since 2019.
Grifone, a graduate student, enters the BIG EAST Championship with 10 wins across 20 starts in the circle. She pitched a total of 110 innings pitched and posted a 3.82 ERA, while holding opponents to a .249 batting average and recording 64 strikeouts. In BIG EAST play, Grifone ranked sixth in ERA (3.43) and third in opposing batting average (.240). She tallied a season-high eight strikeouts in a win over Creighton earlier this year.
Smith, junior outfielder, led the Friars' offense with a team-best .383 batting average, 59 hits, six triples and a .466 on-base percentage. She enters the BIG EAST Tournament ranked first in the conference in triples, seventh in batting average, eighth in on-base percentage and ninth in hits.

The Friars enter the 2025 BIG EAST Softball Championship as the No. 6 seed. No. 6 Providence will play No. 3-seed Villanova, tomorrow, May 7 at the Villanova Softball Complex in Villanova, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
