PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's basketball Head Coach Erin Batth announced today [May 13] that graduate student Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence and compete for the Friars during the 2025-26 season. Gueye, who spent the 2024-25 season at Florida A&M, has one year of eligibility remaining.
"Sabou is a very athletic, explosive guard," Coach Batth said. "She is an experienced player, who will push tempo and make us a much faster team. She is a great one-on-one player and with her speed, she will be very disruptive on the defensive end. We also love her ability to crash the boards from the guard spot."
Gueye, a 5-9 guard, played 27 games with 26 appearances in the starting line-up at Florida A&M last season. She averaged 11.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 46-percent from the field (117-257). Gueye recorded 18 double-digit scoring games, including eight games with 15-or-more points.
Gueye played two seasons at New Mexico State University (2021-24), where she competed in 57 games with eight appearances in the starting line-up. She completed her undergraduate degree, earning a bachelor's in individualized studies from New Mexico State.
Gueye began her collegiate career at Northwest Florida State College (2020-22). She played 51 games with five appearances in the starting line-up. She helped her team compile a 51-5 record over two seasons and claim the 2021 NJCAA National Championship.
Gueye also competed for her native Senegal, as part of the senior national team, in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Rwanda.
