Third-Quarter Scoring Woes Doom Friars At Marquette, 69-51

Olivia Olsen recorded her team-best ninth double-double of the season.
MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated, 69-51, at Marquette on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in Milwaukee, Wis. Providence trailed 32-31 at halftime, but were outscored 24-5 in the third quarter en route to the loss. The Friars dropped to 11-18 overall (4-12 BIG EAST), while Marquette improved to 18-8 (10-5 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars took a 7-6 lead into the first media timeout (4:49).
• Providence went cold from the field for nearly three and a half minutes, before Nariah Scott converted a pair of free throws at the 2:25 mark.
• Grace Efosa netted a jumper on Providence's next possession to go ahead 11-8 at the 1:49 mark.
• The two teams were knotted, 11-11, at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• An 8-2 run gave the Friars a 23-20 lead with 5:31 on the clock.
• Providence led 25-22 at the media timeout (4:45) as Efosa (10) and Olivia Olsen (8) combined for 18 of the team's 25 points.
• Marquette used a 5-0 spurt to claim a 30-28 lead late in the quarter.
• Olivia Olsen converted a traditional three-point play to put the Friars back on top by one with 17-seconds left, but Marquette's Jaidynn Mason beat the buzzer to give the Golden Eagles a 32-31 advantage at halftime.
• Olsen (11) and Efosa (10) combined to score 21 of the Friars' 31 points in the first half.
3RD QUARTER:
• Marquette outscored Providence 24-5 in the third quarter to break open the game and take a 56-36 lead.
• The Friars shot just 17-percent in the frame (2-12) and committed seven turnovers, while Marquette converted 8-18 attempts from the field (.444).
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence outscored Marquette, 15-13, in the fourth quarter to reach a 66-51 final score.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Olsen recorded her team-best ninth double-double of the season and 25th of her career.
• She finished the game with 17 points on 7-11 shooting and added 10 rebounds.
• With her 10 boards, Olsen moved into sole possession of fourth place on the Friars' all-time rebounding list (877 rebounds).
• Efosa recorded 16 points and tallied four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

• The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 23 against Villanova. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is slated to tip-off at 12:00 p.m. on FS1.
