PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team closed out the 2025 calendar year against top-ranked UConn at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Dec. 31. The Huskies claimed a 90-53 victory and improved to 14-0 (5-0 BIG EAST). Providence dropped to 8-7 overall (1-3 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence was scoreless the final 6:51 of the opening quarter as UConn finished the frame on a 21-0 run.
• The Huskies led 30-7 at the intermission.

Payton Dunbar scored five of the Friars' seven points in the first quarter.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence started the second quarter on a 5-0 spurt (30-12).
• The Huskies responded with an 11-0 run to go ahead 41-12 with 5:27 left on the clock.
• UConn outscored Providence 18-12 overall in the second and carried a 48-19 lead into halftime.
• Dunbar was the lone Friar to reach double figures in the first half (11).
• Sarah Strong paced UConn with 15 points and Azzi Fudd added 11 points and five assists in the opening half.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence started the frame with a 4-0 spurt.
• UConn answered with a 16-3 run to take a 38-point lead (2:23).

Ashley Dinges hit a three with 2:13 on the clock to spark an 8-0 Friar run (64-34).
• The Huskies led 70-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Princess Moody led the Friars in the quarter with six points on 2-2 shooting from beyond the arc.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars outscored the Huskies 14-11 through the first 5:18 of the quarter as UConn went into the media timeout with a 81-49 lead (4:48).
• The Huskies outscored the Friars 20-18 in the fourth and claimed a 90-53 victory.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
•
Sabou Gueye paced the offense for Providence with 12 points on 4-6 shooting from the field and a 4-4 effort from the foul line. She added two rebounds and a game-high four steals.
• Dunbar and Moody each finished with 11 points.
• Moody's 11 points marked a career high as she shot 3-6 from the field, including 2-2 from beyond the arc.
•
Orlagh Gormley recorded team-highs in rebounds (six) and assists (five).
• Gormley has dished 5+ assists in eight games this season, including six of the last seven contests.

• Providence will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 4 against BIG EAST foe DePaul at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill. Tipoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
