PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College junior forward
Carly van Benten (Ashburn, Va.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey on Oct. 7, marking her first league recognition of the season.
Van Benten scored two goals in a 1-1 week for the Friars. She notched a goal versus Connecticut during BIG EAST play on Oct. 3 and then followed with the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Vermont, 2-1, on Oct. 5.
Through 11 games this season, Van Benten leads the Friars points (15) and assists (seven) and has added four goals. She currently ranks third in the BIG EAST and 18
th in the nation in assists per game. Van Benten also ranks in the top-10 among BIG EAST players in points per game (1.30).
The Friars return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 against BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
