Friar Athletics are in full swing.
Providence College athletics are in full swing, and we look forward to the upcoming basketball season as exhibitions start this weekend. While we are living in an evolving landscape of college athletics, we continue to strive to promote and support our student-athletes in a holistic manner to be successful in their academics, athletics, community service, and career goals.
Â
Since my last update, we have come off an exciting Homecoming Weekend which was highlighted with thousands of Friar alumni and families coming back to campus to celebrate, as well as unofficially kicking off our men's and women's basketball seasons with Late Night Madness at the AMP. Thank you to all of my colleagues for their work in orchestrating such an incredible event that was highlighted by an unbelievable performance by Carrie Underwood. In addition, next Wednesday, October 22 we will bring our annual season ticket holder party to the location of our newest corporate partner, Bally's. We are grateful for their partnership with PC Athletics and for hosting this Friartown event for the first time at their venue. If you are not a season ticket holder for men's or women's basketball or men's ice hockey and are interested in joining this exciting event, please contact us (401) 865-GOPC for more information.
Â
Over the next couple of weeks, I will be travelling to New York City to participate in the BIG EAST Media Day which brings together all BIG EAST coaches and key players to showcase the upcoming season. During this year's Media Day, the Conference will be hosting a special panel with administrators, former coaches, media members, sports law experts and others that will be led by Commissioner Val Ackerman focusing on the future of college sports. This will also include a special one-on-one conversation with NCAA President Charlie Baker on the current state of the NCAA. I'll also be meeting in November with my fellow BIG EAST Athletic Directors and College Presidents to discuss the many pressing issues facing our conference and collegiate athletics.
Â
One of these issues includes the current status of the Student Compensation and Opportunity through Rights and Endorsements (SCORE) Act and the critical role that this federal legislation will play in shaping the future of college sports. While this bipartisan bill is still under consideration in the House of Representatives, we continue to be hopeful that it will gain traction in the coming weeks and months. In fact, commissioners from 31 Division I conferences cosigned a letter to the House of Representatives which reiterated the strong support of each conference for the SCORE Act and the need for federal standards in this uncertain and fragmented landscape.Â
Â
While we wait to see how this legislation unfolds and what it means for the future of college sports, we cannot stop doing all we can to ensure that our programs at Providence College are supported at an elite level, including being a leader in the revenue share landscape. Your contributions to the college, including revenue share, are fully tax deductible and provide immediate support for our student athletes. You can support PC athletics by:
Â
Finally, a reminder that our men's basketball team will play two games in November at the Mohegan Sun Arena. These include PC vs. Virginia Tech on Saturday, November 8 at 4:00pm and PC vs. Penn State on Saturday, November 22 at 4:00pm. We need all Friar fans to pack the arena for these two games to ensure we have a home court advantage against these two power conference programs. By purchasing tickets, you will also help raise significant support for revenue share. To be a part of the action and purchase your tickets, please click here:Â https://friars.evenue.net/list/MSA.Â
Â
As always, thank you for all that you do for Friar Athletics and your passion for Friartown. We are grateful for all of your support.
Â
Sincerely,
Â
