Thaea Mouratidis And Richie Joseph Earn 2025-26 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards

Each institutional winner receives a $2,000 scholarship toward graduate or professional studies.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College's Thaea Mouratidis (Toronto, Ontario) and Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) have been named recipients of the 2025-26 BIG EAST Institutional Female and Male Scholar-Athlete Awards. The selections were made by the Conference's Academic Affairs Committee. Each institutional winner receives $2,000 toward graduate studies. To be eligible for consideration, each student-athlete must be in their senior year academically and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale). The candidate also must be an outstanding contributor athletically in their respective sport. From the list of institutional winners, a female and male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is honored. This year's overall winners are: Marja Lardner, Women's Soccer (Georgetown) and Jesse Hamlin, Men's Track & Field (Butler).
Mouratidis, who returns to the pitch for the Providence College women's soccer team in 2026 as a graduate student, recently earned Preseason All-BIG EAST recognition on Aug. 3. Last fall, she recorded one goal and a team-high five assists for the Friars and finished in a tie for second on the team in points (seven). At the conclusion of the 2025 campaign, she picked up All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. Mouratidis missed the 2024 campaign with an injury but has played a significant role in each of her three active seasons with the program (2022, 2023 and 2025). She has played 53 career games, including 45 appearances in the starting line-up, and has recorded 13 points on two goals and nine assists. In 2023, Mouratidis helped the Friars claim an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. It marked the program's third appearance in the NCAA Tournament overall.
Joseph, a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team, claimed All-BIG EAST First-Team accolades in 2026 and became the fourth player in program history to be named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in multiple seasons (2025, 2026). Joseph is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection overall, having earned Second-Team recognition in 2024. During the 2026 campaign, Joseph finished second on the team in scoring, with 49 points. He recorded a team-best 39 goals and added 10 assists. He paced the Friars in game-winning goals (four) and man-down goals (one) and recorded two man-up goals. Joseph's man-down goal came during the Friars' BIG EAST Semifinal victory over Villanova on April 30. Joseph finished his career ranked fifth all-time in scoring at Providence with 171 career-points (129 goals / 42 assists). Additionally, his 129 goals rank second all-time in program history. He is one of only seven players to record 100+ goals at Providence all-time. In his final season, he recorded seven hat-tricks, including a season-high six goals against St. John's (4/24). Joseph finished the year ranked third in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.64) and fifth in points per game (3.43). He earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on April 27 and was featured on the Honor Roll on April 20. He also earned BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Preseason All-BIG EAST and NEILA Preseason Watchlist Honors.
