PROVIDENCE, R.I.– It was announced on Tuesday, Oct. 14, that Providence College senior Níamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) was named BIG EAST Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week. O'Mahony earned the honor after capturing the individual title and leading the Friars to the team championship at the New England Championship at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. on Friday, Oct. 10.
O'Mahony won the 5K race in 17:08.18 to lead the Friar women to a first-place finish with 67 points. It marked the 12th time the Friar women have captured the New England title and the 10th time a PC women's runner has won the individual title, the first since Roisin McGettigan in 2001.
The Friars will return to action on Friday, Oct. 17 when the women's team heads to the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. and the men compete at the Princeton Fall Classic in Princeton, N.J.
