HANOVER, N.H. – Providence College volleyball defeated Quinnipiac in five sets at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday, September 22 in Hanover, N.H. Providence finished the weekend 2-1 and improved to 7-4 overall on the season.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Quinnipiac earned a 25-23 victory in the first set.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 6-6 tie.
- The Bobcats went on a 5-1 run to take a 11-7 lead.
- Providence responded by going on a 5-1 run to tie the match 12-12.
- Quinnipiac took a 16-13 advantage, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Bobcats were able to maintain their lead (22-19).
- Coming out of their timeout, the Friars narrowed the Bobcats lead to 22-21.
- Providence tied the match 25-25.
- Quinnipiac held on to win the first set 27-25.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won the second set, 25-23.
- The Friars jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead to begin the second set.
- The Bobcats used a 6-4 run to bring them within one (9-8).
- Providence extended its lead to 14-9.
- Quinnipiac responded with a 9-3 run to take a 18-17, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
- The two teams played evenly to tie the set at 21-21.
- The Friars used a 4-2 rally to win the set 25-23.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the third set, 25-12.
- Providence got out to a 6-1 lead, forcing Quinnipiac to take a timeout.
- The Friars extended their lead to 10-3.
- The Bobcats chipped away to narrow Providences lead to 11-7.
- Providence used a 6-0 run to extend its lead to 16-7.
- The Friars maintained their lead throughout the set to win 25-12.
- Lyric Berry recorded 12 kills through three sets.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Quinnipiac won the fourth set, 25-20.
- The Bobcats got out to a quick 5-2 lead.
- Quinnipiac extended its lead to 11-5, forcing the Friars to take a timeout.
- The Friars chipped away to narrow the score to 16-9.
- Quinnipiac increased their lead to 22-14.
- Providence went on a 5-1 rally to make the score 23-19.
- The Bobcats maintained their lead to win the set 25-20.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the match by taking the fifth set 15-6.
- Providence jumped out to a quick 7-1 start.
- Quinnipiac went on a 4-2 run to narrow the Friars lead to 9-5.
- The Friars extended their lead to 12-5.
- Providence maintained its lead throughout the set to win 15-6.
MATCH NOTES:
- Berry led the Friars' offense with 15 kills and seven blocks
- Macy Taylor and Jiji Lykins recorded 11 digs for the Friars.
- Taylor led Providence with four service aces.
- The Friars notched 50 kills, 47 digs, 10 aces and 17 blocks.
