Lewin And Corasaniti Honored As 2023-24 Sport Excellence Award Winners

Josh Lewin and James Corasaniti each represented their sport as BIG EAST honorees.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the winners of the 2023-24 BIG EAST Sport Excellence Awards today (Aug. 12), which recognize academic and athletic achievement as well as community service. Of the 22 overall award winners, two of the honorees represent Providence College. Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) earned the award for men's indoor track and James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) claimed the recognition for men's lacrosse.

The Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible. The winners are chosen by the BIG EAST Faculty Athletics Representative Council.

Lewin, who is returning to Providence in 2024-25 as a graduate student, graduated in May with 3.96 GPA after majoring in marketing and management.  Lewin is a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.   He was named to the Providence College Dean's List (3.55 GPA or above) six times. His indoor track accomplishments this year include winning the 1,000 meters at the 2023-24 Boston University Indoor Track Season Opener.  He also placed second in the 500 meters at the 2024 URI Invitational.  Lewin earned All-BIG EAST accolades when he helped the distance medley relay team place second at the 2024  BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship.  Also at the 2024 BIG EAST Indoor Championship, he helped the 4 x 800 team place fourth and the 4 x 400 squad place fifth.

Corasaniti graduated from Providence in May with a GPA of 3.69. He received a master's degree in history. He is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection at Providence College. He was named to the Providence College Dean's List four times. Corasaniti started all 30 games during his two-year career with the Friars. He recorded one goal and three assists as a goalkeeper and finished his career with 360 saves, a .481 save percentage and 13.41 goals against average. He is a two-time All-BIG EAST selection and was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023.
