PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence's Corey Floyd Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) and
Anton Bonke (Port Vila, Vanuatu) recently returned from a nine-day tour with the 2024 USA East Coast Men's Basketball Select Team that competed in Greece. The trip took place from June 24 to July 2 with the team playing four games.
The team arrived in New York City on June 24 and then traveled to Athens, Greece on June 26. The team faced four veteran Greek teams in Panerithraikos, the Greece U-20 National Team, Lavou, and Papagos during its stay.
In the team's opening game on June 27 against Panerithraikos, Bonke led the team with seven rebounds. He also scored 10 points in the 80-66 victory. In the team's second game, Floyd had 13 points in an 86-74 loss against the Greece National Team on June 28. In the team's third game, the squad earned a 104-90 win against Lavou. Floyd took over down the stretch finishing with 17 points and three assists in 21 minutes of play. Bonke came up with two big baskets in the fourth quarter to help propel the team to a victory. In the final game of the tour, USA East Coast played to an 86-86 tie with Papagos on July 1. Floyd led the team with 18 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes. Bonke added 12 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes.
Floyd Jr. finished his redshirt sophomore season with the Friars averaging 4.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He made 11 appearances in the starting lineup and averaged 23.3 minutes per game.
Bonke joined the Friars in January after playing for Eastern Arizona College last season. He played in 17 games for Eastern Arizona averaging 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game. He will be making his debut for the Friars in 2024-25.
The USA East Coast Team was coached by reigning NBA Western Conference champions Dallas Mavericks' assistant coach Alex Jensen.
