Emily Sisson '14 And Jovana Nogic '19 To Compete In Olympic Games

Sisson will represent the United States in the Women’s Marathon; Nogic will compete for Serbia in Women’s Basketball.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two former Providence College student-athletes have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in their respective sports. Emily Sisson '14 is making her second appearance all-time at the Olympics and will compete for the United States in the Marathon. Sisson is one of eight former Providence College women's cross country and track athletes to have qualified for the Olympics all-time – making a total of 14 appearances. Additionally, Sisson is coached by Ray Treacy, who has guided the Providence College men's and women's cross country and track teams as its Head Coach for four decades. Jovana Nogic '19 will compete for her native Serbia in women's basketball. She becomes the first women's basketball player from Providence College to compete in the Olympics.
The 2024 Olympic Games will take place in Paris, France from July 26 – August 11.
Sisson enjoyed an extraordinary running career at Providence College, claiming two NCAA individual titles in the 5,000 meters in the 2015 indoor and outdoor seasons. She also helped lead the Friars to the 2013 NCAA Cross Country team title as a co-captain of the squad. Sisson also claimed seven BIG EAST titles and 10 All-America accolades. She will be making her second appearance at the Olympics, having competed in the 10,000 meters during the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she finished 10th. Sisson qualified for the 2024 Olympics with a second-place finish in the marathon at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Sisson went on to set the North American record in the marathon on Oct. 9, 2022, finishing second at the Chicago Marathon in a time of 2:18.29. She also held the American record in the half marathon from May 2022 until July 2023, with a time of 1:06.52. Additionally, she represented the United States in the 10,000 meters at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.

Nogic competed for Providence College from 2015 – 2019 and was a two-time All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection and a Ann Meyers Drysdale Award candidate. She ranks fourth all-time in career scoring at Providence with 1,724 points (125 games). Nogic posted 85 double-digit games during her career, including 26 games with 20-or-more points. She set program records for career three-point field goals (323), single-season three-point field goals (93 in 2018-19), career free-throw percentage (.909, 229-252) and single-season free-throw percentage (.945, 86-91). Nogic also finished her career ranked third all-time in the BIG EAST Conference in three-point field goals during regular-season conference play (167). In 2018-19, Nogic helped guide the Friars to their first post-season appearance since 2010 as part of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Nogic averaged a team-best 19.3 points during the Friars' WNIT run. She has played professionally since her graduation, most recently for Besiktas in Turkey. She also has played in Spain for Cadi La Seu, CDB Clarinos, Tenerife, Campus Promete, CB Perfumerias Avenida.
Nogic and Serbia will begin competition on July 28 in Group A, which includes Puerto Rico, China and Spain.
