LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Incoming Providence College freshman Trevor Connelly (Tustin, Calif.) was selected in the first round (19th overall) by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2024 NHL Draft held at Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, June 28. Connelly becomes the fifth first-round pick of the program, joining Joe Hulbig (13th, 1992), Tom Fitzgerald (17th, 1986), Mark Jankowski (21st, 2012) and Jay O'Brien (19th, 2018).
Connelly, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound forward ranked second in the USHL in scoring in 2023-24 with 78 points on 31 goals and 47 assists, averaging 1.50 points per game for the Tri-City Storm and earning All-USHL Second Team honors. At the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, he finished tied for the most points in the tournament with 10, registering five goals and five assists in five games. Connelly also earned a silver medal at the 2024 IIHF Under-18 World Championship where he posted four goals and five assists for nine points in seven games played. He also participated in the 2024 NHL Scouting Combine back in June and was ranked No. 6 for North American skaters on the NHL's Central Scouting rankings entering the draft.
Connelly becomes the second Friar to be drafted by the Golden Knights, joining Jack Dugan, who was selected in the fifth round (142nd overall) in 2017.
