These annual events help support Friar Athletics on many different levels.
Â
The Providence College Athletic Department recently completed a busy stretch of donor and fan engagement events which began on May 7 in New Rochelle, NY where Providence College Athletic Director Steve Napolillo and Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English were hosted by a group of Friar alumni and parents for golf and a reception at Wykagyl Country Club. It was a great day for the program and growing the network of the Friar family.
Â
That evening, Karl Anderson '88 and Kerry Anderson '88 hosted their annual Freshman Welcome Party at their home in Greenwich, CT. This year's event was attended by more than 40 incoming freshmen families from the Westchester and Fairfield counties. This has become a flagship event to introduce the newest members to the Friar family. They all had the opportunity to meet Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English, as well as Senior Associate VP of Admissions Raul Fonts.
Â
The following day, Athletic Director Steve Napolillo and Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English were hosted at the iconic Winged Foot Golf Club with a host of Friar alumni, parents and donors. This has become a tremendous tradition and a showcase of the support system behind the Friar men's basketball team.
Â
On Thursday May 11, a sold-out field attended the Santander Vision Cup at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich, CT. The first in a series of Vision Cup golf outings to support the men's basketball program, this year's participants were treated to golf at the #1 ranked course in Connecticut followed by a lunch with Head Coach Kim English. Funds raised from this outing go directly to supporting the men's basketball program. That evening, Steve Napolillo, Kim English and Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement Greg Waldron traveled to New Haven, CT for the Veritas Awards Dinner, which was hosted by the Providence College New Haven Alumni Club. During the event, MaryBeth Canavan was honored for her incredible support of Providence College and specifically for the transformational gifts they have made to build the Canavan Sports Medicine Center, which supports the mental and physical health of every PC student-athlete. Â
Â
The following week, a sold-out field of golfers gathered at the Misquamicut Club in Westerly, RI for the Second Annual Rossi Electric Athletic Director's Cup. The funds raised from this flagship event go to support a rotating initiative in the athletic department. This year's proceeds will enable the women's basketball program to travel to Greece and Croatia this summer. Guests at the event got to meet members of the women's basketball program, as well as Erin Batth, Kim English and former BIG EAST Commissioner Mike Tranghese.
Â
The longest standing annual fundraiser for the athletic department continued on Monday, June 3, when more than 140 golfers came together for the Hannoush Jewelers Friar Golf Classic at Warwick Country Club. Guests had the opportunity to meet student-athletes and coaches from all 19 sports at Providence College and were treated to food and beverages on the course provided by The Capital Grille and Coca Cola. In addition to Hannoush Jewelers as the title sponsor, presenting sponsors supporting the event included Coast to Coast Promotional Products, The Friar Family Collective, Friar Sports Properties, Lax & Co., Millonzi Fine Catering, Rossi Electric and UG2. Signage at the event was provided by Graphic Innovations. During the dinner reception, Athletic Director Steve Napolillo presented Amica Mutual Insurance and their CEO Ted Shallcross with the 2024 Friar Athletics Partner of the Year Award in appreciation of the support that Amica has provided to transform the experience of every student-athlete at PC. Â
Â
The month-long series of events culminated on Tuesday, June 4 when more than 3,000 season ticket holders gathered on Slavin Lawn for the annual season ticket holder appreciation party. Season ticket holders and fans on the men's basketball season ticket waitlist had the opportunity to meet Providence College President Father Kenneth Sicard, O.P., Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English, Head Women's Basketball Coach Erin Batth and Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach Nate Leaman. Student-athletes from the three programs were also present. Those in attendance were treated to dinner catered by Millonzi Fine Catering and beverages provided by Coca Cola. Fans also had the opportunity to play basketball in the Ruane Friar Development Center and meet Friar Legend Ernie DiGregorio, who was on campus signing complimentary copies of his book Star with a Broken Heart. Walking through Alumni Hall, fans could select their seats for season tickets to women's basketball for next season, as well as purchase season tickets to men's ice hockey.
Â
"The enthusiasm around Friar athletics was on display at all of these events and I truly appreciate all of the donors, fans and members of the Friar family who came out to show their support. Seeing the familiar faces and meeting the next generation of Friar fans was a highlight for me and I look forward to cheering alongside of everyone next year" – Athletic Director, Steve Napolillo
Â
"Our season ticket holders and fans are the backbone to our program. Our quest for another national championship begins next fall and Schneider Arena will again be one of the greatest environments in college hockey." – Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach Nate Leaman
Â
"Seeing our fans at these events gave me a chance to say thank you. I see you at our games, I see the donations that you send to support our program and on behalf of all of our coaches and student-athletes thank you for the impact that you have on our team." – Head Women's Basketball Coach Erin Batth
Â
"Year one in Friartown, feeling the energy at the AMP, seeing the way our fanbase travels and supports our program was special. Friar basketball is positioned to compete at the highest level thanks to the support of our donors and fans. The events of this past month were a testament for the appetite that our fans have for all things Friar Athletics." - Head Men's Basketball Coach Kim English  Â
