LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Providence Friars opened the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field East Preliminary competition on Wednesday May 22 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Friar junior
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) entered the 10,000 meters semifinals as the 40
th seed of 48 runners. He improved on his seed by placing 20th in the race in a time of 29:47.57. The top-12 finishers in the 10,000 meters in the East advance to the NCAA Championships on June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
The Friars will return to action on Thursday when senior
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), junior
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and sophomore
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) will run the first round of the 1,500 meters at 3:30 p.m. They will be followed by freshman
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) and graduate student
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) in the first round of the 800 meters at 4:50 p.m. Rounding out the Friars competing on Thursday will be seniors
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) and
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Ontario) in the semifinals of the 10,000 meters at 6:10 p.m.
