Women’s Hockey Travels To Boston College For Hockey East Quarterfinal Game

The Friars enter the Hockey East tournament as the No. 5 seed.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's hockey team will travel to Boston College for the Quarterfinal Round of the 2024 Hockey East Tournament on Friday, Mar. 1. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Conte Forum. The Friars enter the tournament as a No. 5 seed and the Eagles as the No. 4 seed.
 
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 13-16-5 and 12-10-5 in Hockey East play. In their last weekend matchup, Providence swept the Merrimack Warriors. On Friday, Feb. 23, the Friars claimed a 4-1 win, followed by a 3-0 shutout on Feb. 24.
 
 Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished with 31 saves on the weekend. Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.), Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.) each recorded three points over the weekend.
 
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Friars, who received 74 points, were picked to finish behind Northeastern (88) and Vermont (75). The Huskies, who won the 2023 Hockey East Tournament, received eight first place votes.
 
Rounding out the poll was UConn (65), Boston University (59), Boston College (58), Maine (38), New Hampshire (35), Merrimack (28) and Holy Cross (20).
 
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes nine new players (two transfers and six freshmen) to the roster for the 2023-24 season. Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a graduate student from University of Wisconsin and Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) a junior from Syracuse University. The six freshmen are Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.), Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.), Peyton Blaney (Millgrove, Ontario), Dylan Berman (Deephaven, Minn.), Taylor Gilmour (Napanee, Ontario), Taya Currie (Parkhill, Ontario) and Avery Callison (Acton, Mass).
 
Captains Named
Graduate student Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) and senior Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Alberta) were named captains for the 2023-24 season, along with alternate captains Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) and Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.).
 
Hockey East Award Winners
Audrey Knapp was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 23 for scoring three goals in two games.
 
Knapp earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Nov. 27 for scoring the lone goal and game-winner against Brown University.
 Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) earned Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 11 for recording four points on Dec. 8 against New Hampshire and scoring the Friars' lone goal against Boston University on Dec. 9.
 
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) earned Hockey East Player of the Week on. Jan. 15 for recording two goals on Saturday, Jan. 13. Becker's second goal on Saturday sent Providence into overtime against Vermont, where they went on to win 4-3.
 
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) earned Hockey East Player of the Month for recording 11 points across the Friars' eight January games.
 
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) earned Hockey East ROTC Defender of the Week on Feb. 26 for recording a goal Friday and two assists on Saturday.
 
Knapp was named to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team. Knapp is third in total points for the Friars with 13 goals and four assists
 
Scouting the Eagles
Boston College finished regular season play 14-13-7 overall with a 13-9-5 Hockey East record. The Eagles last faced the University of New Hampshire. On Friday, Feb. 23 the Wildcats defeated the Eagles, 3-1. New Hampshire defeated Boston College again, 6-4, on Saturday, Feb. 24. As a team, Boston College averages 30 shots per game and hold a .213 conversion rate on power plays with a 51.3 faceoff success percentage.
 
Who to Watch
Sammy Taber leads Boston College with 29 points consisting of 12 goals and 17 assists. Sammy Smigliani follows with 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points.
 
Goaltender Grace Campbell has started in 33 games this season. Campbell has recorded 909 saves for a .919 save percentage and a 2.54 GAA.
 
All-Time Series with the Eagles
Providence currently leads the all-time series record against Boston College 58-45-4. In the teams' last weekend matchup, they tied 1-1 on Jan. 26. Boston College went on to win the shootout, 1-0. On Jan. 27, the Friars claimed a 3-1 win over the Eagles.
 
Friars in Hockey East Tournament
The Friars are 22-23 all-time in Hockey East Tournament play. Against Boston College, the Friars are 2-4 in tournament play with two quarterfinal losses and a 2-2 record in semifinals.
