PROVIDENCE, R.I.–The Friars will face the Merrimack Warriors this weekend in a home-and-home series to close out regular season play. Providence will host the Warriors on Friday, Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m. for the senior night celebration before traveling to North Andover, Mass. for a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 24.
As the seedings currently stand, No. 5 Providence will travel to No. 4 New Hampshire for the Hockey East quarterfinals which will be played on Saturday, Mar. 2. Depending on this weekend's play, the Friars could finish tied with New Hampshire for the No. 4 seeding and host the Wildcats at Schneider Arena.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 11-16-5 and 10-10-5 in Hockey East play. In their last matchup on Friday, Feb. 16, the Friars lost to the University of Maine, 2-1, in overtime.
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished with 34 saves.
Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) scored the Friars' lone goal and
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Friars, who received 74 points, were picked to finish behind Northeastern (88) and Vermont (75). The Huskies, who won the 2023 Hockey East Tournament, received eight first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was UConn (65), Boston University (59), Boston College (58), Maine (38), New Hampshire (35), Merrimack (28) and Holy Cross (20).
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes nine new players (two transfers and six freshmen) to the roster for the 2023-24 season.
Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a graduate student from University of Wisconsin and
Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) a junior from Syracuse University. The six freshmen are

Hockey East Award Winners
Audrey Knapp was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 23 for scoring three goals in two games.
Knapp earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Nov. 27 for scoring the lone goal and game-winner against Brown University.
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) earned Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 11 for recording four points on Dec. 8 against New Hampshire and scoring the Friars' lone goal against Boston University on Dec. 9.
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) earned Hockey East Player of the Week on. Jan. 15 for recording two goals on Saturday, Jan. 13. Becker's second goal on Saturday sent Providence into overtime against Vermont, where they went on to win 4-3.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) earned Hockey East Player of the Month for recording 11 points across the Friars' eight January games.
Scouting the Warriors
Merrimack enters the weekend matchup with a record of 10-19-3 (7-15-3 HEAW). The Warriors last faced UConn and Boston University. On Friday, Feb. 16 the Huskies claimed a 5-1 win over Merrimack. The Terriers then shutout the Warriors, 4-0, on Feb. 17.
Who to Watch
Celine Tedenby leads Merrimack with 21 points consisting of seven goals and 14 assists. Mary Edmonds follows with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. Leading goal scorer, Maria Lindberg, has eight goals and seven assists.
Goaltender Calli Hogarth has started in 31 games this season. Hogarth has recorded 824 saves for a .905 save percentage and a 2.77 GAA.
All-Time Series with the Warriors
Providence and Merrimack currently leads the all-time series record, 21-2-2. In the teams' last matchup on Nov. 17, Merrimack defeated the Friars, 1-0.
