The Friars will host Bucknell in an NCAA First Round match at 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 21.
NO. 25 MEN'S SOCCER SET TO HOST BUCKNELL IN NCAA FIRST ROUND MATCH...The No. 25 Providence College men's soccer team earned an at-large selection to the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
The Friars will host Bucknell in the First Round on Thursday, Nov. 21 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Friars enter the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5-3 overall record. Thursday's match will mark the first meeting all-time between the two soccer programs.
FRIARS EARN NCAA TOURNAMENT BERTH FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2021, MARKING THEIR 12TH APPEARANCE ALL-TIME.. The Friars are making their 12th appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament, and sixth appearance under the direction of 13th-year Head Coach Craig Stewart. The Friars' most recent appearance in the NCAAs was in 2021. Providence earned victories over Marist (2-0) in the First Round and went on to defeat No. 14 Marshall (2-1 OT) in the Second Round, before losing to No. 3 Georgetown (1-4) in the Third Round. Marshall was the defending national champion.
In its previous 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament, Providence has advanced to the Third Round four times (2014, 2016, 2019 & 2021). The Friars moved on to the Quarterfinal in 2014 and 2016.
The Friars' most notable run came during the 2014 campaign, when the squad advanced to the College Cup Semifinal. That same season, the team won the BIG EAST Tournament title for the first time in program history.
Providence College is 13-11-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament action, including a 10-5-1 mark with Stewart at the helm.
NO. 25 MEN'S SOCCER FINISHES AS BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNERS-UP...The second-seeded Friars made their seventh appearance in a BIG EAST Championship final, where they faced No. 24 and fourth-seeded Georgetown on Nov. 17 in Boyds, Md.
Israel Neto (Salvador, Brazil) scored the opening goal in the 15th minute of regulation after he passed a defender and fired a curling shot that found the right side of the net. It marked Neto's third goal in BIG EAST Tournament play and fourth in his last five games.
THREE FRIARS EARN BIG EAST ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM RECOGNITION...Three Friars earned BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honors following the team's impressive run in the BIG EAST Championship: sophomore Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) and graduate students Israel Neto and Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.).
Neto scored two game-winners in the Friars' BIG EAST Tournament run. He notched what proved to be the game-winner in Providence's opening round against UConn on Nov. 9 and the overtime winner versus St. John's on Nov. 13.
O'Brien scored the equalizer in the Friars' 2-1 overtime victory over St. John's in the semifinals and assisted Neto's goal in the BIG EAST Championship.
Goalkeeper Lukas Burns has played every minute in net for the Friars this season. He made 15 crucial saves during the BIG EAST Tournament, including a season-high seven in the Friars' win over St. John's. Burns is a two-time BIG EAST All-Tournament selection.
NO. 2-SEED MEN'S SOCCER SECURES OVERTIME WIN AGAINST NO. 3-SEED ST. JOHN'S, 2-1, TO ADVANCE TO THE BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME FOR SEVENTH TIME...The second-seeded and 25th-ranked Providence College men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3-seed St. John's in the BIG EAST Semifinals on Nov. 14 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
Sophomore Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season in the 20th minute with a rocket shot that sailed past the goalkeeper and found the bottom right corner of the net. His goal tied the game, 1-1, and eventually forced overtime.
In the first minute over overtime action, Brandon Marshall (Wake Forest, N.C.) sent a high-cross into the box that deflected off the head of Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) and landed at the feet of Neto who one-timed the ball into the net for the game-winning goal.
Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) recorded a season-high seven saves to help the Friars to their seventh BIG EAST Championship game appearance.
PROVIDENCE SHUTS OUT NO. 7-SEED UCONN AND ADVANCES TO THE BIG EAST SEMIFINALS FOR THE SECOND-CONSECUTIVE SEASON... The second-seeded and 25th-ranked Providence College men's soccer team defeated the No. 7-seed Connecticut Huskies, 2-0, in a BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Providence, R.I. The Friars will make their second consecutive BIG EAST Semifinal appearance and 16th in program history.
Graduate Student Israel Neto (Salvador, Brazil) scored his second goal versus UConn this season to deliver a win for the Friars. Junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to seal the victory. Lukas Burns(Cinnaminson, N.J.) matched his season-high of five saves to record his seventh shutout of the season.
PC held a 19-13 advantage in shots, 7-5 in shots on goal and 9-3 in corner kicks.
FRIARS CLAIM SHARE EAST DIVISION TITLE...The Providence College men's soccer team defeated defending BIG EAST Champion, Xavier, 1-0, in the team's final regular-season match on Saturday, Nov. 2. With the win, Providence claimed a share of the BIG EAST East Division regular-season title.
Senior Cole Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to clinch the victory for the Friars.
Providence held a 13-7 advantage in shots, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. The Friars also led in corner kicks, 9-5.
Burns collected five saves in goal for Providence. He was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Nov.4.
PROVIDENCE QUALIFIES FOR ITS 24TH BIG EAST TOURNAMENT, MAKING ITS SECOND APPEARANCE AS THE SECOND SEED... The Friars made their 24th all-time appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament. Providence earned the No. 2 seed for just the second time in program history. The Friars also earned the No. 2 seed in 2021 and advanced to the championship game. That season, the Friars earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Third Round.
FRIARS RANKED 25TH IN UNITED SOCCER COACHES POLL...The Friars are ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The final poll of the regular season was released on Nov. 5. The Friars have been ranked as high as No. 18 this season and also were featured at No. 23.
FRIARS REMAIN IN THE TOP-20 RPI... Providence enters the NCAA First Round match ranked in the top-20 of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). The Friars are No. 18.

FRIARS PERFECT AT HOME IN NCAA TOURNAMENT PLAY...The Friars hold a perfect 6-0 all-time record in NCAA Tournament play at home in Providence, R.I. Their most recent home victory came in 2021, when they defeated Marist 2-0 on Chapey Field.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE...The Friars are currently 12-5-3 overall and ranked No. 25 in the nation.
Bruno Rosa and Israel Neto have each recorded double digits in the points column. Rosa owns 15 points on five goals and five assists. Neto has tallied 12 points on five goals and two assists.
Neto has scored a goal in five of the last six games, including three game winners. He has scored a goal in all of the Friars' three BIG EAST Tournament games.
FIVE FRIARS EARN ALL-BIG EAST HONORS... Five Providence College men's soccer student-athletes received All-BIG EAST honors following the 2024 regular season. The league announced their postseason honors on Nov. 12.
Graduate student Bernardo Prego earned a spot on the First Team, while graduates Lukas Burns and Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Vedras, Portugal) and junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal), made the Second Team. Junior Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
FRIARS ARE 7-0-1 WHEN SCORING TWO-OR-MORE GOALS...Providence has posted a 7-0-1 record when scoring two-or-more goals in a game.
BALANCED ATTACK...Eleven different players on the roster have scored at least one goal, and five of those 10 players are multi-goal scorers.
SECOND HALF SURGE...Providence has scored 15 of its 25 goals this season during the second half.
FRIARS ARE 1-1 AGAINST RANKED TEAMS...On September 20, Providence pulled off an upset win over No. 8 Seton Hall in their BIG EAST opener at Chapey Field in Providence, R.I.
Midfielder Rodrigo Vaza recorded the game winner in the 21st minute off a give-and-go with Israel Neto.
Goalkeeper Lukas Burns recorded one save on the night to mark his third shutout of the season.
The Friars' lone loss to a ranked opponent this season came on Nov. 21, when they fell 2-1 to No. 24 Georgetown in the BIG EAST Championship match.
TRANSFER POWERHOUSE... Twenty-two of the 25 Friar goals this season have come from transfer students. Transfers Pepe Lora (Madrid, Spain), Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal), Harry Scarborough (Wigan, England), Aidan Davock (Medway, Mass.), Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Vedras, Portugal), Israel Neto (Salvador, Brazil), and Kevin Castañeda (Providence, R.I.) have all recorded goals this season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH...
Junior Bruno Rosa leads Providence with 15 points, five goals and five assists. Rosa converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute that sealed the Friars' victory in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals over UConn on Nov. 9. Graduate student Israel Neto, a transfer from Caldwell University, has experienced a remarkable late-season surge, scoring all five of his goals in the Friars' last six games. Neto delivered the golden goal just one minute into overtime to secure a thrilling semifinal victory over St. John's on Nov. 14. He also netted the game-winner against UConn in the quarterfinals on Nov. 9 and scored the Friars' lone goal in the BIG EAST Championship final. Neto's three postseason goals ranked him second on the team in both points (12) and goals (five), alongside his two assists this season. All-BIG EAST First-Team graduate defender, Bernardo Prego (Evora, Portugal) has recorded four on the season.
Freshman defender Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) has had a stand-out rookie season for the Friars. Teixeira has tallied three assists. He assisted on the deciding goal in the Friars' win at UConn which earned him BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Oct. 28.
Lukas Burns has played 1,784 minutes in goal for Providence and owns a 0.96 goals against average and a 0.774 save percentage. He has been the goalkeeper of record in each match this season (12-5-3) with seven clean sheets. This season, Burns was honored as the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
HEAD COACH CRAIG STEWART IN HIS 13TH SEASON WITH 125 WINS AND STELLAR RECORD HEADING INTO BUCKNELL MATCH...
Craig Stewart is in the midst of his 13th-year at Providence College and recorded his 100th career win with the Friars on Nov. 11, 2021. He enters Thursday's match against Bucknell with a 127-82-36 record as head coach at Providence. Before taking over the Friars' program in 2012, he spent three seasons as head coach at Franklin Pierce (51-8-6). In 16 years overall as a head coach, Stewart has posted a record of 177-89-36. Stewart has built an impressive coaching career at Providence, leading the team to nine BIG EAST Championship appearances and six NCAA Tournament berths.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL...The Bison enter the NCAA Tournament with a 7-6-6 overall record. Bucknell, the No. 2 seed, won the Patriot League Championship over fourth-seeded Colgate University, 3-0, on Nov. 16. It marked the team's fifth Patriot League title in school history and the first since 2014.
Sophomore Jack Lucas Horn leads the Bison with 10 points on three goals and two assists. Drew Roskos follows with nine points on three goals and three assists. Both Lucas and Roskos found the back of the net during the Patriot League Tournament. Lucas, David Krumov, and Cade Whitmire are tied for the team lead with four assists each. The Bison have had 12 different players score goals this season.
Bucknell has an all-time record of 3-6-1 in NCAA Tournament action. The wins came in 1974 against Penn State, in 2006 against George Mason and in 2009 against Princeton. Bucknell also played a 0-0 draw with Fairleigh Dickinson in 1973 before falling in penalty kicks. The Bison last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and lost to UNC Wilmington in the First Round, 2-0.
Head Coach Dave Brandt was named Patriot League Coach of the Year after orchestrating a dramatic turnaround for Bucknell this season. The Bison claimed their fifth Patriot League championship and their first since 2014, becoming one of only two Division I programs nationwide to move from last place in 2023 to earning at least a share of a conference regular-season title in 2024.

WHAT'S NEXT...The winner of Thursday's NCAA First Round match-up will advance to the Second Round against seventh-ranked and ninth-seeded Clemson, in Clemson, S.C. The Tigers has won two of the last three NCAA College Cups.
