Five Providence College Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

Bernardo Prego is named to All-BIG EAST First Team.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- It was announced today (Nov. 12) that five players from the Providence College's men's soccer team received All-BIG EAST honors following their standout performances in the 2024 regular season. Graduate student Bernardo Prego (Evora, Portugal) earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team, while graduates Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Vedras, Portugal), along with junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal), made the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Junior Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
 
Defender Bernardo Prego has delivered an outstanding performance this season for the Friars. Logging 1,312 minutes on the field, Prego has contributed four assists, including two on game-winning goals. His defensive skills have been instrumental in securing seven shutouts for the team.
 
In his final collegiate season with the Friars, goalkeeper Burns has recorded seven shutouts in 18 games. He matched a season-high with five saves in the Friars' 2-0 BIG EAST Quarterfinal win against Connecticut. Burns was named the 2024 BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and is now a three-time recipient of All-BIG EAST honors.
 
Forward Rosa leads the team in points, goals and assists this season. Rosa has registered 15 points on five goals and five assists. He scored the second goal in the Friars' Quarterfinal win over UConn in the 80th minute to secure the team's berth into the BIG EAST Semifinals. This marks Rosa's third BIG EAST recognition and first All-BIG EAST honor. Rosa is a two-time mention to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (10/23/23 & 9/30/24).
 
Midfielder Vaza has been a key component for the Friars this season. Vaza has tallied two goals and two assists, including the game-winning goal in the Friars' 1-0 upset over No. 8 Seton Hall earlier this season. Vaza was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on September, 9, 2024
 
Midfielder Batista has appeared in 14 games this season. Batista was named to Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and to the United Soccer Coaches 2024 Players To Watch List. This marks his second All-BIG EAST recognition.

No. 25 Providence will advance to the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals, to face No. 3-seed St. John's.  
 
The Semifinal will be played at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. on Thursday, Nov. 14. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 p.m. and will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
