PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by DePaul, 3-0, in BIG EAST action on Friday, Oct. 25 in Chicago, I'll. The Friars dropped to 7-13 overall (0-9 BIG EAST), while DePaul improved to 14-7 (6-3) BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul earned a 25-18 victory in the first set.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 10-10.
- DePaul went on 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Blue Demons extended their lead to 18-11.
- Providence cut the deficit to four (19-15).
- DePaul maintained its lead and won the set 25-18.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul won the second set, 25-23.
- DePaul got out to quick 7-3 advantage.
- Providence fought back and tied the set 10-10.
- The Blue Demon's went on an 8-1 rally to take a 18-11 advantage.
- Providence went on a 12-5 run to tie the set 23-23, forcing DePaul to take a timeout.
- DePaul held on to win the set 25-23.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul took the third set 25-20 and won the match 3-0.
- The two teams played evenly to reach a 4-4 tie.
- The Blue Demon's went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead.
- DePaul extended its lead to 18-9.
- DePaul maintained its lead to win the set 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
Lyric Berry led the Friars' offense with nine kills.
Alicja Pokrzywa recorded a team high eight digs.
Miller McDonald tallied 22 assists and six digs.
The Friars recorded 30 kills, 24 digs, seven blocks and three aces.
