Women’s Hockey Takes Down No. 14/14 Northeastern, 2-1

Sarah Davies scored the game-winning goal for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College women's hockey team defeated No. 14/14 Northeastern, 2-1, on Friday, Oct. 25 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars improve to 5-3-0 on the season and 2-2-0 in Hockey East play, while Northeastern dropped to 4-4-1 overall (2-2-1 Hockey East). Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal with 4:58 left in regulation and Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 26 saves in net for the Friars.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
-The teams skated through a scoreless first period.
 
-Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) opened the scoring for the Friars just 2:58 into the second period. Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway) and Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) earned assists. Johnson moved into a tie for the team lead in goals. Kirchmair has registered a point in each of the last four games.
 
-Sirum was assessed a major penalty at 17:31 of the second period.
 
-During the five-minute power play that followed, Tuva Kandell tied the game with 2:05 remaining in the second period. Skylar Irving and Éloïse Caron were credited with assists.
 
-The Friars successfully killed off the remainder of the major penalty, keeping the game tied, 1-1.
 
-With 4:58 left in regulation, Davies capitalized on a Northeastern turnover and scored the game-winning goal. She was assisted by Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) and Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.). It marked Davies' third goal of the season and her second game-winning goal. She is in the midst of a three-game point streak.
 
- Walinski recorded 26 saves for the Friars in the win.
 
-Providence blocked 14 shots in tonight's game, tying their season-high, which was previously set on Oct. 11 at the University of Maine.
 
-The Friars claimed their second victory of the season over a ranked opponent. Previously, the Friars defeated No. 10/11 Quinnipiac (3-2) on Oct. 15.
 
-Providence is 4-1-0 at Schneider Arena to start the season.
