Nate Leaman recorded career win No. 400 on Friday night.

BURLINGTON, Vt. Nick Poisson scored 1:29 into overtime as the No. 13/12 Providence College men's hockey team defeated Vermont, 3-2, at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday (Oct. 25). With the win, Head Coach Nate Leaman earned career win No. 400 as a Division I head coach.

NOTES

John Mustard got the Friars on the board at the 9:08 mark of the first period as he finished off a rebound from Chase Yoder for his first-career goal to put Providence up 1-0. Austen May also earned an assist on the play.

- Vermont's Mateo Dixon was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding on Guillaume Richard to put Providence on the power play at 17:36 of the opening period. The Catamounts were able to kill off the entire five-minute major.

- The Friars got another contribution from a freshman, this time Will Elger netted his first-career goal on a breakaway as he was sent in alone by Ryan O'Reilly. Tomas Machu registered his first NCAA point with an assist on the play.

- Vermont cut the lead in half at 13:09 of the second period as Joel Maatta jumped on a loose puck in the slot and finished a quick shot past Svedebäck.

- The Friars generated some momentum after a 5-on-3 penalty kill in the third period but could not extend the lead.

- The Catamounts tied the game with 40 seconds remaining on the power play during a 6-on-4 advantage.

- Poisson slammed a May rebound through the legs of Rancier and into the back of the net at 1:29 of overtime for his first tally of the season and point No. 97 of his career.

- The Friars extended their unbeaten streak against Vermont to 15 games (11-0-4).
