Women’s Hockey Defeated by No. 8/9 UConn, 3-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College women's hockey team fell to No. 8/9 UConn, 3-2, on Friday, Oct. 18 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. With the loss, the Friars drop to 4-3-0 on the season and 1-2-0 in Hockey East play, while UConn improves to 4-3-0 and remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0-0 in Hockey East. Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) and Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway) each found the back of the net for the Friars, while Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I) recorded 18 saves in goal.

-UConn took the lead 6:13 into the first period when Ashley Allard found the back of the net, assisted by Riley Grimley and Emma Eryou.
 
-Just 35 seconds into the second period, Megan Woodworth extended UConn's advantage to 2-0, with Brianna Ware and Emma Eryou picking up assists.
 
-Providence responded at 14:18 of the second period, as Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway) redirected a shot from Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario). Josie Lang was also contributed an assist.
 
-With 12 seconds left in the second period, Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) leveled the score for the Friars. Assists went to Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) and Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.), who now leads the team with seven points this season.
 
-The game-winner came 2:47 into the third period from UConn's Martha Mobarak with Livvy Dewar and Sadie Hotles recording assists.
 
-Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 18 saves for the Friars.
