PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Princeton Fall Classic hosted by Princeton University on Friday, October 18. The race will be held at the Meadows Campus at Princeton University. The women's race will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's race.
The Friar women enter the race ranked 10th nationally and first in the Northeast Region.
Leading the way for the women will be graduate student
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), senior
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and graduate student
Alex Millard (Kent, England). The last time the Friars' top-five ran they placed fourth out of 25 teams at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Sept. 27. At the Nuttycombe, the Friar women's team was led by senior
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand). May finished strong in fifth place with a time of 20:12.4. Friar graduate students
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and
Alex Millard (Kent, England) placed 13th (20:25.8) and 19th (20:31.1), respectively. Senior
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) crossed the line in 58
th-place with a time of 21:05.3. Freshman
Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) rounded out the top five for the Friars, finishing 85th (21:20.1). A total of 190 runners finished the race.
The men's team comes in ranked fifth in the Northeast Region.
In the men's last two meets the team was led by senior
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and graduate student
Liam Back (New Plymouth, England). Morgan was the top PC runner when he finished 62nd (24:20.6) at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Sept. 27. Last week, Back finished third (24:23.11) in the New England Championship on Oct. 11 at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. He led the Friar men's team to a second-place finish overall (17 teams competed) on the 8K course. Morgan and Back will be joined by graduate student
Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia), freshman
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), and freshman
Liam McCay (Liverpool, England) as leaders at the Princeton Fall Classic.
