New York, N.Y. - Providence College women's soccer players
Thaea Mouratidis (Scarborough, Canada),
Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) and
Abbey Finn earned BIG EAST Weekly Awards today [Sept. 4], following their performances last week against Brown and Temple. The Friars went 2-0-0 on the week, defeating Brown and Temple. Brown was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' National Poll at the time of the match.
Mouratidis, who was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, led Providence with three assists and one goal through two games. She assisted on the game winning goal against Brown and registered a career-high four points on two assists and one goal against Temple.
Briggs, who was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, scored the game winning goal against Brown. This is the second time in three weeks she has earned the league's Freshman of the Week accolades.
Finn, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, helped lead the Friars' defense to two shut-out victories last week. The Friars defense has not surrendered a goal to their opponents through the first five games of the season.
The Friars are off to their best start in program history, having compiled a 5-0 record. Providence will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 7 against Rutgers at 6:00 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J.
Providence is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation in the most recent poll released by Top Drawer Soccer.
