AKRON, OHIO- The Providence College men's soccer team earned a point in the standings with its 3-3 tie against No. 3 Akron in the 2023 BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams. It was the first meeting all-time between the two programs as the Zips are in their first season as a member of the BIG EAST. It marked the Friars' first tie against a ranked team on the road since the Friars posted a 0-0 tie with Xavier on Oct.12, 2022. It also is the second time PC has played a top-10 team team on the road this season as it faced No.1 Syracuse in the season opener.

-Sophomore Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) scored his first goal as a Friar, putting PC up 1-0 on a penalty kick in the seventh minute of the game.
-Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) put the Friars up 2-0 after a one-touch finish off Pearse O'Brien's cross.
-Josh Hallenberger put the Zips on the board (2-1), as he converted off a cross from Stefan Dobrijevic in the 41st minute.
-Nathan Messer (London, England) answered Akron's goal with an effort from outside of the box in the 42nd minute, putting PC up 3-1.
-Jason Shookalook made it a 3-2 game as he converted a penalty kick for Akron.
-Daragh Reilly scored the equalizer in the 86th minute of the game, putting the score at 3-3.
