Friars Begin Competition At NCAA Outdoor Track Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – NCAA Outdoor Track Championship began today, June 7 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. Junior Shannon Flockhart and sophomore Kimberley May will race for the Friars tomorrow, June 8th in the 1,500 meters semifinals at 8:46 p.m. (ET).
 
Flockhart won her heat in the 1,500 meters first round on May 25 at the NCAA First Round in Jacksonville, Fla. in a time of 4:15.92. She then won her quarterfinal heat on May 27 in a time of 4:11.51, which automatically qualified her for the upcoming semifinal round.
 
May qualified for the 1,500 meters quarterfinals by running a 4:21.10 to place second in her heat at the NCAA First Round. She then placed fifth in her quarterfinal heat in a time of 4:14.83 to automatically qualify for the semifinals.
 
Tonight, Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) competed in the 10,000-meter finals but did not finish the race.
