PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team fell to Butler University, 7-1, in the series-opener on Friday (March 24) at Glay Field. The Friars fall to 9-15 overall and 2-5 in BIG EAST play.
GAME NOTES
- Providence broke the 0-0 deadlock in the bottom of the third as Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J) singled up the middle to score, scoring Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.).
- The Bulldogs responded in the top of the fourth with a trio of runs to take a 3-1 lead.
- Butler added insurance in the top of the fifth inning, paced by Monique Hoosen's two-run home run to give the Bulldogs a 6-1.
- The visitors tacked on another run in the top of the sixth inning on a triple by Ella White.
- Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) pitched a complete game, allowing seven runs (four earned) while striking out five Bulldogs.
- Douma paced the Friars with two hits and an RBI.
ON DECK
The Friars and Bulldogs conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday (March 26) beginning at 11 a.m.
