PROVIDENCE COLLEGE FALLS TO NO. 15/15 VILLANOVA, 67-50
Friars return to Alumni Hall to host St. John's in the regular-season finale on Feb. 27.
 
VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to No. 15/15 Villanova, 67-50, on Friday, Feb. 24 at Finneran Pavilion. Providence dropped to 13-17 (4-15 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats improved to 25-5 (16-3 BIG EAST).
 
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars were scoreless for the final 6:05 of the quarter, while committing seven turnovers.
• Villanova scored 11-straight points to gain an 18-7 lead at the intermission.
 
2ND QUARTER:
Janai Crooms halted the Friars' scoring drought on the Friars' first possession of the quarter at 9:45 (18-9).
• Villanova used a 6-0 spurt during a span of 2:00 heading into the media timeout (28-11).
• The Providence defense held the Wildcats without a field goal for over three minutes as the Friars inched within 14 on back-to-back scores by Grace Efosa (28-14).
• The Wildcats outscored Providence 9-4 in the final 2:53 of the quarter to gain a 37-18 lead at halftime. 
• Efosa paced the Friars with seven points in the first half and Crooms added six.
• Lucy Olsen led 'Nova with nine points and five rebounds.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence scored the first four points of the third (37-22).
• BIG EAST all-time leading scorer Maddy Siegrist answered for the Wildcats with five-straight points to make it a 20-point game (42-22) with 6:47 to play.
• Providence outscored Villanova 8-3 to cut the deficit to 15 at the 2:23 mark. Efosa and Olivia Olsen each scored four points in the spurt.
• Villanova maintained its 15-point advantage.
• Olsen scored eight of the Friars 14 points in the quarter, while Siegrist scored all 10 of the Wildcats' points.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Back-to-back threes by Villanova midway through the fourth pushed the Wildcats' lead to 21 with 5:10 to play.
• It marked Villanova's largest lead of the night en route to a 67-50 win.
 
NOTES:
• Olsen paced three Friars in double figures with 15 points. She was 7-7 from the free throw line and added four rebounds and three blocked shots.
• With her three blocked shots, Olsen became the fifth player in program history to recorded 50+ blocks in a season (51).
• Efosa added 13 points and Crooms finished with 12 points, two assists and eight rebounds.
Kylee Sheppard paced Providence on the glass with nine rebounds.
• Providence won the glass with a 39-36 rebounding advantage.
• At the conclusion of tonight's conference games, Providence has solidified its spot as the No. 10 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament.
• The Friars will play the No. 7 seed in the first round on Friday, March 3 at Mohegan Sun Arena. Tip-off is scheduled or 1:30 p.m.
 
UP NEXT:
• The Friars will host St. John's in the regular-season finale on Monday, Feb. 27. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the program will honor graduate student Logan Cook and seniors Janai Crooms and Lauren Sampson.
