Brynn Farrell Pours In Career-High 23 Points To Help Friars Beat Yale, 63-58

Friars return to action on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Sacred Heart
NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Yale, 63-58, on Dec. 9 in New Haven, Conn. Senior Brynn Farrell poured in a career-high 23 points to lead the offense, as the Friars improved their record to 5-5. Yale dropped to 2-9 on the season.
1ST QUARTER:
• Both teams struggled offensively to open the game. Providence shot 2-7 from the field, while the Bulldogs were 0-7.
• At the media timeout, the Friars held a 4-1 lead (4:44).
• Yale used a 10-4 scoring advantage out of the timeout to take an 11-8 lead with 1:20 left on the clock.
• The Bulldogs led 11-10 at the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars used a 7-0 run to take a 19-14 lead with 6:36 remaining on the clock.
• Marta Morales Romero halted a Providence scoring drought of 5:29 with a lay-in at the 1:30 mark.
• The Bulldogs outscored the Friars 8-2 during the final 5:13 of the second quarter to take a 22-21 lead at halftime.
• Farrell led the Friars with nine points on 4-7 shooting and Emily Archibald grabbed a team-high five boards in the opening 20 minutes of play.
• Providence dominated the paint scoring, 14-6, but gave up a 10-2 scoring advantage to Yale in points off turnovers.
3RD QUARTER:
• Yale scored on its first possession of the third, but Providence answered with a 6-0 run to regain the lead (27-24).
• Another Friar run, this time and 8-0 spurt during a span of two minutes, gave Providence a 35-28 lead and forced a Yale timeout (5:04).
• Yale used a 7-0 run to tie the game with 39-seconds left in the quarter (39-39).
• Olivia Olsen scored four-straight points for the Friars in the final 16-seconds of the quarter to give Providence a 43-39 cushion.
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence extended its run to 8-0 to open up a 47-39 lead and led by as many as nine (53-44) heading into the media timeout (4:50).
• Yale cut the deficit to four (53-49), but Farrell converted a traditional three-point play to give the Friars some breathing room (56-49).
• A deep three off a broken inbounds play by Kiley Capstraw got the Bulldogs within two (58-56) with 29-seconds left in regulation.
• Providence finished the game 5-6 from the free throw line, including a 4-4 showing by Farrell, to seal the win (63-58).
NOTES:
• Farrell finished the day with a career-high 23 points. She shot 7-11 from the field, including a 2-3 performance from beyond the arc. Farrell also hit 7-7 attempts from the charity stripe.
• Olsen hit double figures in the scoring column for the seventh-straight game, and ninth game overall, with 15 points.
• Archibald hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds and added a team-high two assists and three steals.
• Laryn Edwards and Morales Romero each contributed eight points in the win.
• Jenna Clark scored 23 points and seven assists for Yale, while Capstraw added 12 points.
