Providence College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams Compete At NCAA Regionals

The women’s team finished third while the men’s team finished fourth.

BRONX, N.Y. – the Providence College men's and women's cross-country teams competed against nationally and regionally ranked teams today (Nov. 10) at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The Friar women placed third out of 37 teams (137 points). The Friar men placed fourth out of 37 teams (145 points). Both the men's and women's squads will wait to hear if they have earned at-large and individual bids to the NCAA Championship. The selection show will air on Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
 
For the women's 6k race, junior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) finished first for the Friars in the competitive field. May went out in the top-3 and maintained her position through the course. May went on to finish second (19:37.3) overall.
 
Seniors Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) were the second and third runners across the line for Providence. Flockhart moved through the field to place 13th (20:09.5) overall and Mooney finished 27th (20:31.8).
 
Rounding out the top-five were senior Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and freshman Reese Fahys (East Greenwich, R.I.) placing 45th (20:51.7) and 50th (20:53.9), respectively.
 
On the men's side, junior Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) was the first Friar to cross the line. Morgan went out in the top-10 and maintained his position for a sixth-place finish (29:51.2).
 
Junior Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) and senior Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) were the second and third Friars across the line for the men. Laadjel finished ninth in a time of 29:55. while Back finished 22nd (30:09). 
 
Rounding out the top-five were seniors Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) and Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) finishing 29th (30:17.4) and 79th (31:04.7), respectively.
 
The NCAA Cross Country Championship will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Charlottesville, Va.
