The No. 4-seed Providence College women's soccer team will face top-seeded Xavier in the semifinal round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 2. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.

All-Time In The BIG EAST Tournament
The Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the 11th time in program history in 2023. Providence owns a 6-9-3 all-time record in the BIG EAST Tournament, including its most recent victory over St. John's (3-1) in the Quarterfinals on Oct. 29 in Providence, R.I.
Survive And Advance
In each of the three instances that the Friars and their opponent have ended regulation and overtime in a tie, Providence advanced to the next round on penalty kicks (2015, 2017, 2019).
Friars In The Semifinals
The Friars return to the BIG EAST Semifinal round for the first time since 2019. It marks the seventh semifinal appearance for the Friars all-time. Providence is 1-4-1 all-time in the semifinals. The Friars' lone semifinal win came vs. Boston College (2-1) in 1993. That year, Providence went on to win the BIG EAST Tournament title. In 2015, the Friars tied Georgetown, 1-1, and advanced to the championship game on penalty kicks.

Sam Lopes is 3-6-3 all-time in the BIG EAST Tournament. In each of the ties, the Friars advanced to the next round on penalty kicks (2015, 2017, 2019). Lopes' three victories came in the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory against St. Johns, in the 2015 campaign with a 1-0 victory against DePaul and this season (2023) with a 3-0 win against St. John's.

Players To Watch
Senior
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) leads the Friars in scoring heading into the BIG EAST Tournament with 16 points on eight goals. Hughes ranks in the top-10 in six different statistical categories in the BIG EAST. Hughes ranks fourth in goals (eight) and goals per game (0.44), sixth in points (16) and sixth in points per game (0.89). She also ranks fourth in shots (51) and shots per game (2.83).
Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.) and
Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) have each recorded 13 points for the Friars' offense. Gallagher has four goals and five assists, while Kenney has registered six goals and one assist. Freshman

Bodmer And McElroy In Net

Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and graduate student
Katherine McElroy (Brookline, Mass.) occupy the first and fifth spot for save percentages in the BIG EAST. Bodmer has a save percentage of (.905) while McElroy has a save percentage of (.837). The duo have split time in goal this season. Bodmer has played 810 minutes and has posted a 7-0-2 record. McElroy has played 765 minutes and has recorded a 3-3-3 mark.
Clean Sheets
Bodmer and McElroy have combined for eight shut-out victories this season. Providence's eight shutouts rank fourth among BIG EAST teams. Three of the eight shutouts have come during BIG EAST Conference play.

Providence has outshot its opponents, 246-171. In 12 of the team's 17 games this season, Providence has recorded more shots than its opponent.
