Women’s Soccer Defeats St. John’s, 3-1, In The First Round Of The BIG EAST Tournament

Gillian Kenney and Kyla Gallagher combined for seven points for the Friars’ offense.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer defeated St. John's, 3-1, on Sunday, October 29 in the First Round of the BIG EAST Tournament. This marked the second time in program history the Friars have recorded three goals in the post season. Gillian Kenney and Kyla Gallagher led the Friars' offense combining for seven points.  The Friars will return to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2019 and for the seventh time in program history.  Providence will face No. 1 seed Xavier in the BIG EAST Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.

GAME FLOW AND NOTES

- Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game 31 minutes into the first half to give the Friars the 1-0 lead. Her goal was assisted by Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.).

- The Friars held the Red Storm to zero shots in the first half.

- Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.) scored a goal in the 58th minute of the game to give the Friars a 2-0 lead. Gallagher recorded her second assists of the game.

- Kenney scored her second goal of the game to make it 3-0. Gallagher recorded her third assists of the game.

- Jessica Garziano scored a penalty kick for the St. John's with less than two minutes left in the game to make it 3-1.

- The Friars outshot the Red Storm 24-1.

- This marked Kenny's second multi-goal game of the season and third of her career.

- Gallagher recorded a career-high three assists. Gallagher is the first player in the BIG EAST this year to record three assists in a single game.

(2-0) – Providence 58:41 – Snead headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from Gallagher.
