The Catamounts earned the extra point in the Hockey East standings with a shootout win.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 7/8 Providence College men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against Vermont on Saturday night, October 28 at Schneider Arena. Vermont claimed the extra point in the Hockey East standings with a 1-0 win in the shootout.

NOTES

- The Friars opened the scoring on the power play just 5:01 into the game as Nick Poisson fired a shot from the left circle past Carriere for his third goal of the season. Guillaume Richard and Graham Gamache assisted on the play, with Gamache earning his first NCAA point.

- The Catamounts responded just 1:07 later as Simon Jellus finished off a rebound from a Xavier Henry point shot to tie the game at 1-1.

- The Providence penalty kill went to work, killing off four-consecutive penalties in the first period, including 1:45 of 5-on-3 play. Svedebäck stood tall on the penalty kill, turning away all eight Vermont attempts on the man-advantage.

- The teams battled through a scoreless second period with the Friars outshooting Vermont by a 12-7 margin.

- Svedeback came up with another big stop, this time on Jellus who was all alone in front of the Friars' net.

- Connor Kelley gave Providence the lead at 12:53 of the third period, burying a wrist shot past Carriere for his first goal as a Friar. Gamache and Craig Needham earned the assists.

- UVM countered again just 43 seconds later on Timofei Spitserov's goal off a rebound off the end boards.

- The Friars killed off a Vermont power play in overtime and had the final 45 seconds with the man-advantage but couldn't convert.

- Jellus scored the lone shootout goal to give the Catamounts the extra point.
