Cross Country Travels To Wisconsin For BIG EAST Championship

The men’s 8k race will commence at 12 p.m., followed by the women’s 6k race at 12:50 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship hosted by Marquette University on Saturday, Oct. 28. The race will be held at the Wayne Dannehl Course, located in Kenosha, Wis. The men's 8k race will commence at 12 p.m., followed by the women's 6k race at 12:50 p.m.
 
Junior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) was the top finisher for the Friars at the last three races. May kicked off the season winning the Friar Invitational on Sept. 8 in a time of 13:56.2. She also finished first for the Friars and 10th overall (16:34.8) at the University of Virginia Invitational. At the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite on Oct. 13, May had a strong performance, finishing first for the Friars and 19th overall with a time 20:17.50. Senior Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) finished second for the Friars in the last two meets. Flockhart placed 36th (17:00.2) at the Virginia Invitational and 45th (20:41.50) at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Fellow senior Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) is also expected to score for the Friars. Mooney was the third Friar and fifth overall to cross the finish line at the Friar Invitational in a time of 14:14.0. Mooney also scored for the Friars at the Virginia Invitational with a 68th-place finish (17:21.8) and at the Nuttycombe Invitational in 123rd place (21:19.20).
 
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand), Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) will lead the Friar men at the line. Back placed second (18:26.4) at the Friar Invitational before finishing in 58th (24:03.3) at the University of Virginia Invitational and 63rd (24:11.60) at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Morgan placed 66th at the Virginia Invitational in a time of 24:09.8 and finished 97th at the Nuttycombe Invitational in 24:21.70. Laadjel won the Friar Invitational in a time of 18:03.6 and finished 60th (24:04.3) at the Virginia Invitational. Most recently, Laddjel placed 112th (24:25.30) at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
