PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Women's hockey will open Hockey East play this weekend in a home series against Maine. The Friars will host the Black Bears at Schneider Arena on Friday, Oct. 20 at 2:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 2:00 p.m. start.
Scouting The Friars
The Friars are currently 0-4-0 overall and 0-0-0 in Hockey East. Last weekend, the Friars were swept by No. 6 Quinnipiac. On Friday, Oct. 13 the Friars took a 4-1 loss to the Bobcats. On Saturday, Oct. 14 Quinnipiac won 2-1 in overtime.
On Friday,
Mireille Kingsley (Sudbury, Ontario) had a total of 30 saves and holds a .926 save percentage on the season. On Saturday,
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the day with 28 saves and has a .884 save percentage so far this season.
Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) scored her first career goal on Friday, while
KC Brooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored her first goal of the season on Saturday.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) led the Friars in points for the weekend with two assists.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Friars, who received 74 points, were picked to finish behind Northeastern (88) and Vermont (75). The Huskies, who won the 2023 Hockey East Tournament, received eight first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was UConn (65), Boston University (59), Boston College (58), Maine (38), New Hampshire (35), Merrimack (28) and Holy Cross (20).
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes eight new players (two transfers and six freshmen) to the roster for the 2023-24 season.
Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a graduate student from University of Wisconsin and
Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) a junior from Syracuse University. The six freshmen are Audrey Knap (Stevens Point, Wis.),
Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.),
Peyton Blaney (Millgrove, Ontario),
Dylan Berman (Deephaven, Minn.),
Taylor Gilmour (Napanee, Ontario) and
Taya Currie (Parkhill, Ontario).

Scouting the Black Bears
The Black Bears enter the weekend at 2-3-0 (0-1-0 HEAW). Last weekend, Maine lost to New Hampshire 3-2 on Oct. 13.
Who to Watch
Ida Kuoppala leads the Black Bears in points with five goals and four assists. Following Kuoppala in points is Ashley Kokavec and Rahel Enzler. Kokavec has two goals and four assists, while Enzler has one goal and five assists.
Goaltenders Jorden Mattison and Julia Bachetti have split time between the pipes. Mattison has recorded 42 saves this season for a .933 save percentage and a 1.53 GAA. Bachetti has tallied 47 saves this season for a .887 save percentage and a 3.00 GAA.
All-Time Series with the Black Bears
Providence currently leads the all-time series record against Maine 51-14-14. The last time the Friars faced off against the Black Bears was Feb. 25 in the Hockey East quarterfinal round. The Friars beat the Black Bears 5-2 to move on to the semifinal round.
