PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's volleyball team will play a pair of BIG EAST Conference matches this week. The Friars kick off the week with a road match against Connecticut at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in Storrs, Conn. The Friars will return home to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. to host No. 15 Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (8-12, 2-6 BIG EAST):
• The Friars enter the week with a 8-12 overall record, including a 2-6 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
• The Friars are coming off of back-to-back losses against Butler (3-0) and Xavier (3-0) last weekend at Alumni Hall.
• Providence's lone victories in conference play this season included a weekend sweep of Georgetown (3-2) and Villanova (3-2) on Oct. 6-7.

Shaliyah Rhoden leads the Friars in kills (215) and kills per set (2.87). Rhoden also has added 46 digs and 20 blocks
•
Kayla Grant ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in blocks, averaging 1.01 blocks per set. She has recorded 12 solo blocks to go along with 62 block assists.

Sammie Ruggles leads the Friars and ranks second in the BIG EAST in services access, with 27 (0.43 per set).
• Ruggles and
Miller McDonald have each recorded 300+ assists on the season. McDonald leads the team with 344 assists (4.59 per set). Ruggles checks in with 304 assists (4.83 per set).

Lyric Berry has been another formidable defensive presence at the net and leads the team in solo blocks (18), to go along with 43 block assists.

Savannah Ivie leads the team in digs (241), averaging 3.21 per set.

Macy Taylor (123) and
Miller McDonald (106) have each recorded more than 100 digs this season.
• The Friars' roster features seven freshmen.
• Nine of the 14 players on the roster are from the State of Texas.
SCOUTING CONNECTICUT (6-14, 1-7 BIG EAST):
• Connecticut enters the week with a 6-14 overall record, including a 1-7 mark in the BIG EAST.
• UConn started the league slate with seven-straight losses before earning a win against Butler (3-1) in its most recent match on Oct. 14.
• Emma Werkmeister leads the Huskies with 227 kills, averaging 3.07 kills per set. She also ranks second on the team in service aces (18) and ranks third in digs (1.41).
• Karly Berkland (267) and Doga Kutlu (236) have each eclipsed 200+ digs this season.
• Kutlu ranks first on the team in assists (509), averaging 6.70 assists per set.
SCOUTING NO. 15 CREIGHTON (15-4, 6-2 BIG EAST):
• The Bluejays enter the week ranked 15
th in the nation and own a 15-4 overall record (6-2 BIG EAST).
• Creighton is 7-0 at home playing at D.J. Sokol Arena, 5-3 on the road and 3-1 in neutral-site matches.
• As a team, the Bluejays rank 10
th in NCAA Division I in kills per set (14.07), 11
th in assists per set (13.00), 14
th in digs per set (16.93) and 55
th (among 332 teams ranked) in hitting percentage (.248).
• Creighton is on a three-match win streak, having defeated DePaul, Georgetown and Villanova in straight sets.
• Creighton fell to Marquette in BIG EAST play on Oct. 6 in straight sets, and its only other loss in league play came against Xavier (3-2). Both of those matches were on the road.
• Kiana Schmitt ranks third in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.355), while Ava Martin ranks third in the league in kills (260 / 3.82 kps).
• Ellie Bolton leads the squad in digs (289) and ranks second in assists (96).
• Kendra Wait has recorded a team-best 674 assists, averaging 9.91 per set.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Upon completion of the Friars' matches against UConn and Creighton, the squad will return to action with a pair of road matches against Marquette (Oct. 27) and DePaul (Oct. 28).
