PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â The No.9 women's hockey team will matchup against No.13 University of Vermont in a road series as the Friars return from the holiday break. The Friars will travel to Burlington, Vt. for a 6:00 p.m. game on Friday, Jan. 6 and a 5:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 16-5-1 overall and 11-3-1 in Hockey East play. In their last time out, Providence split a home-and-home series with No.3 Quinnipiac University. Providence fell to the Bobcats, 3-2, on Friday, Dec. 9 at Schneider Arena before defeating Quinnipiac the following night, 3-2, on Dec. 10 in Hamden, Conn.

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the weekend with 87 saves and currently holds a .943 save percentage with a 1.50 GAA this season.Â
Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) recorded three assists in Saturday's game on Dec.10.
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) and
Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) both recorded two points across the weekend, each scoring a goal and earning an assist.

Hockey East Award Winners
Claire Tyo was named Hockey East Defender of the Week as announced on Dec. 12 for tallying three assists in a single game on Dec. 10.
Sara Hjalmarsson was named Hockey East Player of the Week as announced on Nov. 21. Hjalmarsson was recognized for having a four-goal game against Maine on Nov. 19.

Abstreiter was named Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Week as announced on Nov. 21. Abstreiter was recognized for tallying her sixth shutout this season and 63 saves over the weekend.

Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month as announced on Nov. 2. Kirchmair was recognized for leading the Friars in goals with seven and leading all of Hockey East in goals among freshman.

Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 24. Kirchmair was recognized for earning two goals over the weekend. She has recorded seven goals and two assists across eight season games. She leads the Friars in goals and is second in points with nine.

Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 17. Abstreiter was recognized for another shutout weekend against Holy Cross. With a combined 25 saves she is the first goalie in program history to tally four-consecutive shutouts.

Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 10. Abstreiter was recognized after a shutout weekend over Union College and RPI, posting a combined 35 saves.

Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Providence received 61 points and was picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.

Scouting the Countamounts
Vermont currently holds a 13-7-1 overall record with a 8-5-1 Hockey East record. The Catamount's last weekend matchup was against Syracuse on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10. Vermont swept Syracuse with a 3-1 win on Friday and a 2-1 win on Saturday. As a team, Vermont averages 29.7 shots per game and hold a .25 conversion rate on power plays with a 54.4 faceoff success percentage.

Junior Natálie Mlýnková leads the Catamounts in total points and assists with 29 and 16, respectively. Graduate student Theresa Schafzahl holds the team-high of 14 goals scored.

Junior goaltender Jessie McPherson has played in 20 games for the Catamounts this season. McPherson has recorded 360 saves this season for a .900 save percentage and a 2.03 GAA. Sophomore goaltender Sydney Correa has played in two games and has recorded 20 saves for a 1.00 save percentage and a .00 GAA.Â

Providence leads the all-time series record against Vermont, 36-20-4. In their last matchup on Feb. 26 of 2022, the Catamounts defeated the Friars, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East tournament.
