PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No.13 Friars will face No.11 Vermont, once again, on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena. On Saturday, Jan. 14 the Friars will travel to North Andover, Mass. to play Merrimack College for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 16-5-1 overall and 11-3-1 in Hockey East play. The Friars are coming off a weekend loss to University of Vermont. Providence fell to the Catamounts, 2-0, on Friday, Jan. 6 in Burlington and lost 4-1 on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the weekend with 42 saves and currently holds a .939 save percentage with a 1.58 GAA this season.
Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario) scored the lone goal for the Friars.
Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) and
Maddy Coene (Clayton, N.Y.) also earned a point for assisting Barnett's goal.

Hockey East Award Winners
Claire Tyo was named Hockey East Defender of the Week as announced on Dec. 12 for tallying three assists in a single game on Dec. 10.
Sara Hjalmarsson was named Hockey East Player of the Week as announced on Nov. 21. Hjalmarsson was recognized for having a four-goal game against Maine on Nov. 19.
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Week as announced on Nov. 21. Abstreiter was recognized for tallying her sixth shutout this season and 63 saves over the weekend.
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month as announced on Nov. 2. Kirchmair was recognized for leading the Friars in goals with seven and leading all of Hockey East in goals among freshman.
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 24. Kirchmair was recognized for earning two goals over the weekend. She has recorded seven goals and two assists across eight season games. She leads the Friars in goals and is second in points with nine.
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 17. Abstreiter was recognized for another shutout weekend against Holy Cross. With a combined 25 saves she is the first goalie in program history to tally four-consecutive shutouts.
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 10. Abstreiter was recognized after a shutout weekend over Union College and RPI, posting a combined 35 saves.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Providence received 61 points and was picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes seven new players (three transfers and four freshmen) to the roster for the 2022-23 season.
Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) is a graduate student from Colgate University.
Ida Press (Uppsala, Sweden) is a graduate student from University of Maine.
Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Alberta) is a junior from Penn State. The four freshmen are Mégane Quirion (Saint-Eustache, Quebec),

Scouting the Countamounts
Vermont currently holds a 15-7-1 overall record with a 10-5-1 Hockey East record. The Catamount's swept the Friars last weekend with a 2-0 win on Friday, Jan. 6 and a 4-1 win on Saturday, Jan. 7. As a team, Vermont averages 29.2 shots per game and hold a .235 conversion rate on power plays with a 55.3 faceoff success percentage.
Who to Watch
Junior Natálie Mlýnková leads the Catamounts in total points and assists with 30 and 16, respectively. Mlýnková and graduate student Theresa Schafzahl are tied for the team-high of 14 goals scored.
Junior goaltender Jessie McPherson has played in 22 games for the Catamounts this season. McPherson has recorded 421 saves this season for a .907 save percentage and a 1.89 GAA. Sophomore goaltender Sydney Correa has played in two games and has recorded 20 saves for a 1.00 save percentage and a .00 GAA.

Scouting the Warriors
Merrimack currently holds a 7-15-1 overall record with a 4-11-1 Hockey East record. The last weekend matchup the Warriors faced was against Minnesota and St. Cloud. On Friday, Jan. 6 the Warriors fell to Minnesota, 2-9. St. Cloud defeated Merrimack, 3-1, on Saturday, Jan. 7. As a team, Merrimack averages 21.1 shots per game and hold a .190 conversion rate on power plays with a 41.8 faceoff success percentage.

Senior Katie Kaufman leads the Warriors in total points and assists with 17 and 18 respectively. Kaufman and sophomore Alexa Pongo are tied for the team-high of 9 goals scored.
